About Julie

As therapists we are not taking on passengers to deliver a pre-determined destination, but fellow explorers, intent on discovery. I believe therapy is a conversation or exchange you’ve never had before, a novel experience witnessed and shared.

I am interested in the mutuality in the encounter and sharing one of the paradoxes of psychotherapy ‘how do you make it safe enough to explore what is not safe to explore?’ I do not assume that it is me that will ‘make it safe’ but trust we will learn together the challenges and possibilities of this.

I am a Registered Social Worker, Psychotherapist originally born and raised in Toronto, Ontario who now resides in Vancouver, British Columbia. I am registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers as well as the British Columbia College of Social Workers. I graduated with my Bachelor of Social Work Degree from Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) in 2017 and went on to complete my Master of Social Work Degree in 2018. In addition to this, I have a Mental Health and Addiction Certification which I completed in 2019 from TMU’s Chang School of Continuing Education.

I have since graduated from a three year specialized training program in Relational Psychotherapy from the Toronto Institute for Relational Psychotherapy (TIRP). I engage in ongoing clinical supervision with TIRP trained faculty to support my continued development in this area. TIRP is a clinical psychotherapy training program recognized by the College of Registered Psychotherapists Ontario (CRPO) for meeting both the academic and clinical experience requirements.

Prior to going into full time private practice, I worked as a Clinical Counsellor and Social Worker in Community Mental Health, Addictions and Crisis Response for non-profit organizations.

My practice is based around anti-oppression principles and values. My therapeutic style asks us to walk on your journey together. It offers an invitation for you to get curious about yourself and your experience in the world.

My style is warm, collaborative and see’s you as the expert of your experience.

My practice is open to all. I work with people from various cultural identities and socioeconomic backgrounds, neurodivergent people, as well as those whose gender or sexuality are expansive. I regularly engage in clinical supervision to sharpen my sensitivity to complex cultural, historical, and systemic factors that are relevant in therapy.

I am a member in good standing of the OASW, OCSWSSW, BCCSW and the BCASW. In addition to clinical supervision, I participate regularly in workshops, trainings, peer supervision, and self directed learning. I am able to work with both Ontario and British Columbia residents.

Julie is a person with white and able-bodied privilege. She is a bisexual-Queer cisgender woman, in a mixed-race/cross cultural partnership, a dog mom, social worker, poet, tarot reader, yogi, snowboarder, plant lover, feminist, critical mental health/Madness/neurodivergence/disability justice and anti-racism/anti-oppressive advocate.

I am grateful to be living, working, and playing as an uninvited guest on the stolen, ancestral, and unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) nations.

Our wounds are often the openings into the best and most beautiful parts of us.
